Techo Santepheap Road at Angkol Beach Officially Launched, Enhancing Tourism and Connectivity in Kep

November 11, 2024 – The Techo Santepheap Road, stretching over 12 kilometers along Angkol Beach, was officially inaugurated today by Prime Minister Hun Manet. This significant infrastructure project, valued at more than 10 million dollars, is designed to bolster the tourism sector and improve accessibility in Kep Province.

Located in Kep Village and Angkoul Village within Angkoul Commune of Damnak Chang Eur District, the Techo Santepheap Road is a sub-project of the Tourism Infrastructure Project for Environmental Growth in the Greater Mekong Subregion Phase II, overseen by the Ministry of Tourism.

Minister of Public Works and Transport, Peng Po Na, highlighted that the project is financed through a concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), along with a government contribution for addressing related impacts and taxes. He noted that the road connects Kep City with the local tourism and fishing community in Angkol Commune, passing through diverse landscapes including agricultural zones, salt fields, and mangrove forests. The new road also links with Provincial Road No. 1332, facilitating transport between Damnak Chang Eur District and Kampot Province.

At the inauguration ceremony, Minister Peng Po Na emphasized the road's immediate benefits for approximately 6,000 families in the area, enhancing travel and transport efficiency. "This project will attract potential tourists and promote growth along the coastal region," he stated, pointing out the inclusion of a car park, bike path, and sidewalks aimed at improving the tourist experience in Kep.

In a related address, Prime Minister Hun Manet urged local authorities to maintain security and safety within tourist areas, particularly addressing concerns related to online fraud and criminal activities. He reassured that the government is committed to fostering a safe environment for both residents and visitors in Kep province.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also reflected on the government's achievements during his 15-month administration, including infrastructure development and improvements to the logistics system in Sihanoukville Port. He stressed the importance of peace and stability as fundamental to the nation’s progress and prosperity.

The Prime Minister further criticized any emotional analyses by foreign analysts and encouraged scientific approaches to understanding Cambodian issues. He thanked the ADB for its ongoing support in developing key sectors in Cambodia.

The successful launch of Techo Santepheap Road is expected to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Kep as a tourist destination while significantly contributing to the local economy.
